Statistical analysis of 167 cases of orbital lesions

ABSTRACT
A series of 167 cases of orbital lesions presenting over a period of 9 years in the Institute of Opahthalmology, King Edward Medical College, Lahore were analysed. Majority of the cases were orbital tumours 120 [71.8%] followed by inflammatory lesions 28 [16.7%], Cystic 9 [5.3%], traumatic 6[3.5%] and congenital 4[2.3%]. Amongst the cystic lesions dermoid cyst was the commonest [56%]. Congenital lesions included meningocoele and encephalocoele 4 [2.3%]. The usual mode of presentation was proptosis, conjuctival chemosis or a palpable mass in the orbit. Latest investigation like ultrasonography [B-scan], angiography, CT and MRI were used as diagnostic tools. Surgical procedures were performed in 77% of the cases, 21% were medically treated and in 2% the treatment was expectant
