Functional endoscopic sinus surgery using a new middle meatal antrostomy stent

ABSTRACT
This study was done on 20 patients to evaluate the effectiveness of the Shikani stent in preventing the development of adhesions between the middle turbinate and the lateral nasal wall and maintaining the patency of the middle metal antrostomy for ventilation and drainage of maxillary sinus. It was concluded that the Shikani middle meatal antrostomy stent proved to be highly effective in preventing the development of synechiae and maintaining the patency of the antrostomy. It was tolerable by the patient and easily applicable and fitted well in the antrostomy opening till the time of removal. Shikani middle meatal antrostomy improved the results and the prognosis of the middle meatal antrostomy
