ABSTRACT
It is knows that spontaneous nystagmus [SN] and positional nystagmus [PN] which is seen in many ophthalmologic and neurological diseases may also appear in healthy individuals. This study was made to find out the prevalence of slow phase velocity [SPV] upper limit of SN and PN in normal subjects in Turkish population using electronystagmographic [ENG] recording system. Bitemporal horizontal ENG recordings were obtained from 107 healthy subjects using three Ag/AgCl disc electrodes connected to ENG amplifier of the Nihon Kohden RM-600 polygraph system via the ENG input box and ENG input panel. In healthy subjects we found that the prevalence of SN was 13%, the upper limit of SN SPV was 4.4. deg/sec, the prevalence of PN was 27.1% and the upper limit of PN SPV was 5.6 deg/sec
