ABSTRACT
To estimate the under five years child mortality in a village in Mosul, north of Iraq, 1992,

Design:

Cross-sectional Survey in the Village of Rawdat Bany Hamdan.

Participants:

All ever-married women in the child bearing age [15-49] years were interviewed separately. Data collected The "preceding birth" technique was utilized The collected data included age of mothers number of live birth, number of deaths among ever-born children, deaths among under five years old children. Main outcome

measures:

a. Deaths of children per ever-married women in a specific age group and b. The under five mortality rate per specific age group of mothers. Deaths of children per ever-married women Increased with the increase of mother age.The under five mortality was 61 per 1000 live births. The under five mortality showed two peaks at the two extremes of the mother's reproductive age The study emphasizes the need to monitor child mortality in different geographical localities and in different times
