ABSTRACT
This study was conducted on 82 children divided into three groups Acute severe asthmatics, chronic asthmatics and controls. The percentage of Fas receptor expression [CD95] on total cells as well as on CD3 T-lymphocytes in blood and tracheal aspirate was determined for acute severe asthma patients and only in blood for chronic asthmatic patients. In the present study, hypoexpression of Fas receptors was found on total cells as well as on CD3 T-lymphocytes in tracheal aspirate in patients with acute severe asthma [ASA]. The results also revealed hyperexpression of Fas receptors on total cells as well as CD3 T-lymphocytes in blood of patients with ASA. Blood results did not correlate to tracheal aspirate results, while hyperexpression [in blood] correlated to asthma severity
