Clinical application of modified ACCO appliance in difficult class II, division 2 malocclusions

ABSTRACT
To introduce a removable appliance in the field of Orthodontics, which has proved to be successful in treating difficult Class II, Div 2 malocclusions. Cetlin's ACCO appliance is modified to achieve a definite molar distalization and correction of incisor angulation simultaneously. This newly developed appliance is being used at Marmara University, Istanbul. Fatima Jinnah Dental College, Karachi. PNS Shifa, Karachi. ACCO appliance is being used in patient with Angle's Class-11, Division 2 malocclusion. This malocclusion is characterised with retroclined central incisors, proclined lateral incisors, deep bite, reduced overbite and low anterior face height. The translation of first permanent molars, distal drifting of premolars, proclination of central incisors, correction of deep bite. In combination with the ACCO appliance, patient needs to wear the cervical pull headgear for 6-8 hours during night only. The Molars are distalized upto 4-5 mm in 4-6 months of regular wear of ACCO and night time wear of headgear
