ABSTRACT
Fowl pox virus WPI strain was passaged to 6 passages on SPE embryonated chicken eggs [ECE] and chicken embryo fibroblasts [CEF] for vaccine preparation. The maximum titre of the inoculated cultures were around the 5[th] and on the 4[th] day after ECE and CEF inoculation respectively. The prepared vaccines were safe, sterile and the best temperature for virus preservation was -20°C. To compare the efficacy of the locally prepared vaccines with imported commercial vaccines; challenge of vaccinated birds by virulent virus was done which revealed protection 96% for ECE vaccine and 92% for CEF adapted vaccine. Moreover; seroconversion using ELISA and SNT proved better immunogenicity of the local ECE vaccine over the imported or CEF locally vaccines
