ABSTRACT
Phyllod tumor is particular and rare entity in breast pathology. The aim of our work is to show the diagnostic, therapeutic, histologic and prognostic features of this tumor in relation with the data in the literature. The authors report a retrospective study of 14 reports of phyllod tumors reviewed at the Souissi University Maternity Clinic from Jannuary 1st 1990 to December 31st 1998. Results of this study were marked by the incidence of phyllod tumor of 0.81% of all breast tumors. Mean age was 35.5 years, with 43% nulliparus and 85.8% were in sexual activity period. Median delay between appearance of the tumor and medical examination was 14 months, the median tumor size was 13 cm. Histologic diagnosis showed a benign phyllod tumor in 57% of the cases, and a malignant tumor in 22% of the cases. Ttreatment was exclusively surgical with large tumorectomy in 8 cases [57.14%], simple mastectomy in 5 cases [35.71%], radical mastectomy in 1 case [7.1%]. Outcome was characterised by death in one case [7.1%] and relapse in 2 cases. In the other cases, there was a good outcome without relapse neither metastasis. Our study and literature data showed that diagnosis of phyllod tumor is histological, the treatment is exclusively surgical and the prognosis is correlated with histology type and histoprognostic factors
