Occurrence of Phytoplanktonic Communities in River Indus at the Kotri Barrage, Sindh, Pakistan

ABSTRACT
Qualitative phytoplanktonic samples were collected twice from November 2001 to January 2002 at the Kotri Barrage. A total of 26 phytoplanktonic species were identified. They included 12 species belonging to Chlorophyceae, 9 species to Cyanophyceae, 3 species to Bacillariophyceae, and 2 species to Dinophyceae. Among the Chlorophyceae, Pediast rum, Spirogyra and Scenedesmus genera were found dominant while among Cyanophyceae, Aphanocapsa, Gloeocapsa and Microcystis were dominant in River Indus
