ABSTRACT
Inflammatory and infectious complications are serious problems that threaten the lives of cardiothoracic patients and inhibit the efforts of the surgical teams. The most recent literature that addresses how infection and inflammation impact the different stages of cardiothoracic care, from admission through the post-discharge period, were reviewed. The objective of this study was to review the relevant information clinically that will allow the practicing clinician to detect the potential inflammatory or infectious complications early and manage them appropriately
