ABSTRACT
Three hundred mothers and their newborn infants [160 males and 140 females] were studied. Swabs from the infant's conjunctiva and their mother's vagina were cultured for bacteria. Susceptibility of the isolated pathogenic bacteria to the commonly used antibiotics was performed. All infants were followed up for 10 days for the development of ophthalmia neonatorum.
