ABSTRACT
Post partum hemorrhage is one of the leading causes of maternal mortality. A prospective study was conducted at Unit III Lady Willingdon Hospital Lahore, from July 2002 to June 2004. During the mentioned period 196 patients with primary PPH were included in the study. Evaluation was done in detail for the risk and causative factors, effective treatment modalities and morbidity and mortality associated with PPH. According to results it was more common among unhooked and multiparous patients. The commonest cause was uterine atony in 54% cases. Most of the patients responded to medical or surgical treatment with average hospital stay of 7 days. Anemia was found in 78% of cases, while other complications included puerperal pyrexia, UTI and wound infection
