effect of educating ways of contagion and prevention of AIDS on knowledge and attitude of clinical students of Isfahan university of medical sciences

ABSTRACT
Currently, the best way for preventing Aids occurrence among medical personnel, is increasing their information and perception concerning risk factors of this disease. This study was performed to determine the effect of education on knowledge and attitude of medical students about AIDS. This quasi-experimental study was done on 133 medical students of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences passing their clinical course. The data collection tool was a questionnaire consisting of three parts of demographic features, knowledge, and attitude. After performing pre-test, the educational program was held during an academic semester and then the post-test was held. Data was analyzed by SPSS software. Scores achieved by samples before and after the educational program were compared using t-test and paired t-test. Forty six point six percent of the participants were female and 53.4% were male. Knowledge score of the students about risk factors of the disease before and after intervention were 15.06 +/- 2.07 and 17.12 +/- 1.44, respectively. The mean and standard deviation of attitude score of the students also increased from 92.7 7 +/- 10.7 to 97.78 +/- 10.33 after the education. Therefore, the results of the study demonstrated the effect of education in enhancing knowledge and attitude of students about AIDS disease. In regard to the increase in knowledge and attitude of clinical students in this study, considering continuing and up to date education in medical students' curriculum is recommended
