ABSTRACT
Spectrophotometric determination of penicillamine was achieved through its oxidation to penicillaminic acid using known excess of freshly prepared hypobromite, then residual hypobromite was treated with sodium flourescein in buffered medium at pH 5.57, where equivalent eosin is produced which absorbs maximally at 517 nm. Stiochiometric study of the reaction showed that, penicillamine reacts with hypobromite in the ratio of 13 respectively. Concentrations adhering to Beer's law are from 40-110 micro g%. The method was applied to artamin capsules and its validity was ascertained by standard addition technique. The mean percentage recovery +/- S.D was found to be 99.37 +/- 0.58. The proposed method is sensitive, accurate and precise as compared with official

method:
