RESUMO
The goal of this project is to incorporate into the daily nursing tasks, strategies, and activities which will strengthen the primary health care philosophy, in all levels of care. To attain this goal, a continuing education program has been designed to train nurses, who participate in the formation of professional and non professional nursing personnel as leaders for primary health care. This continuing education program uses selfdirected and distance learning methodologies and is based on adult learning principles. Changes have been designed in the nurse midwife curriculum of the Catholic University. School of Nursing undergraduate program, to develop the student's capacities to strengthen primary health care philosophy in the primary, secondary and tertiary levels of care. A Nursing Collaborating Center for the Regional Library of Medicine (BIREME) has been established at the Library System of the Catholic University in collaboration with the School of Nursing of this University, to collect, select and disseminate conventional and non conventional nursing literature that is produced in Latin America, in spanish, with special emphasis on nursing leadership and Primary Health Care. During 1992 and 1993 this work will be continued and the distance learning continuing education program will be applied and evaluated
