RESUMO
Castleman's disease (CD) is a relatively rare disorder of the lymphoid tissue. It is commonly considered benign in its localized form, but aggressue in the multicentric type. Usually it presents as a localized mass, usually in the mediastinum or abdomen (retroperitoneum). We report herein a case of a 42-year-old patient with histologically proved CD localized in the retroperitoneal space whose diagnosis was only established after surgical resection. The symptoms disappeared after the operation. Previous reports about this unusual condition are reviewed
