RESUMO
Four training courses designed for medical doctors on epidemiology and clinical management of HIV infection in childhood and congenital sifilis, which were given between 1992 and 1994 at Instituto Materno Infantil de Pernambuco (IMIP), were evaluated retrospectively. The main objectives were 1. To find out if the trainees were still working and replicating the acquired knowledge during the courses, and 2. To evaluate if any charateristics of the trainees were relevant in the future engagement in health assistance and reproduction of knowledges. For this, self-applicative questionaire were sent to 22 (out of 23) ex-trainnes with answer of 13 (59,1 per cent). Most of the profissionals (76,9 per cent) had more than 10 years of graduation and were enclose in the 40-49 age group (53,8 per cent). All the trainees enclosed in age group II(40-49 years) did reproduce the acquired knowledges and this was statistically significant when compared with the remain age groups(p<0,05). No relation was found whem comparing sex, year of graduation, medical speciality, previous work with IV infection, suppot from the home institution and inffluence of the trainning in their work (assistance to HIV infected children) or replication of knowlegde about HIV infection and its prevention. Finally, 76,9 per cent (10) of extrainees assured that they are working with HIV infection and giving lecturers and speaches which permit us to affirm that the train courses were effective. Furthermore, professionally stable trainees appear to be more prone to fullfill the goals of the training courses
