A síndrome de hemólise, elevaçäo de enzimas hepáticas e plaquetopenia (HELLP) foi descrita pela primeira vez por Weinstein em 1982. Sua incidência varia de 2 a 12 por cento em pacientes com hipertensäo induzida pela gravidez. Os autores revisam a fisiopatologia provável da síndrome, suas manifestaçöes clínico-laboratoriais e o manejo da paciente.
