RESUMO
In this study we sought to evaluate the congenital and maternal suckling transmission of the Plasmodium berghei, in Swiss mice, after pregnant females were infected, as an attempt to cooperate in the improvement of the understanding of these questions, taking account findings from the literature. The results obtained confirmed the existence of an increase in stillbirth, abortions and retardation of the infants growth. Transmission through maternal suckling proved to be absent. It was also possible to demonstrate the uncommon transmission of the parasite from the infected females to the infants, but, it was not possible to demonstrate whether the transmission occurred through transplacental passage or at the time of childbirth.
