ABSTRACT
A descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted to evaluate the results obtained in 210 patients who underwent minor surgery at "El Cayo" family physician office, in the health area of Baire, in l998, and to determine their distribution according to the variables of interest for the research. The primary data were taken from the books of registry and control and from their medical histories. The analysis of the results yielded that this modality of intervention prevailed among women (58%), most of the times due to lipomas, and that acupuncture was generally used as anesthesia. The satisfactory evolution of 90.4% of those who were operated on showed the efficiency of the procedure, not only because it avoids the use of antibiotics, but also because it represents a saving of human and material resources for the economy of the country(AU)
