RESUMO

The food and nutritional situation of the elderly in Chile is a multidisciplinary problem closely related with de quality of life the population, from child the to the elder. Special reference with chilean information is provided in term of relation of aging, diet non trasmisible chronic diseases, poverty and health care system, specially at a local level (conties). Based in 15 years of experience of the Quality of Life and Nutrition of Elderly Program of INTA, we postulate a preventive approach to promote healthy aging (long range program), and a short term approach for health care and rehabilitation of the sick elderly.
