ABSTRACT
BACKGROUNDS the physiologic changes due to surgical and anesthetic techniques in preoperative no cadiovascular thoracic surgery with different tests may be evalueted. Objective:
possibility of respiratory index (IR) to be prognostic prective tool.METHODS:
retrospective analysis of O- and CO- values in arterial blood, recorded immediately preoperative stage and 24 hs post breathing FiO- 0,21. IR found with mathematic equations. 29 patients with elective surgery for primary lung cancer ( 17 lobectomies and 12 neumonectomies ) were performed.RESULTS:
there was no significative statistical difference between O, CO and RI medium values pre and postoperative except in 2 cases with high RI; these cases had complications and died in the posperative evolution.CONCLUSION:
the IR was useful tool for prognostic. In cases with high levels was prognostic of final evolution
