ABSTRACT
The epidemiology of transtrochanteric hip fractures is presented. Regarding treatment, the different aspects to be considered when choosing the type of implant and reduction are discussed. The use of the DHS and intramedullary hip screws (Gamma nail or PFN-proximalfemoral nail) and the importance of the position of the hip screw are also discussed. The authors point out that any surgical treatment of these fractures must provide for immediate weight-bearing
