RESUMEN
Se realizó un estudio observacional descriptivo durante el curso académico 1999-2000 en los policlínicos docentes de Camajuaní, Remedios y Caibarién para caracterizar algunos aspectos de la competencia y desempeño de los profesores en la actividad de análisis de un problema de salud. Los profesores respondieron un formulario y se evaluó su desempeño en la actividad mediante una guía observacional. Se tuvo como

resultado:

baja calificación pedagógica en los profesores y poco dominio de los métodos de la enseñanza problémica; predominaron las actividades calificadas de regular. Existieron deficiencias en la competencia pedagógica, lo que influyó en el desempeño de la actividad docente
ABSTRACT
An observational-descriptive study aimed at characterizing some aspects of the competence and performance of professors in the analysis of a health problem was carried out during the academic year 1999-2000 in the teaching polyclinics in Camajuaní, Remedios and Caibarién. The professors answered a questionnaire and their performance in this specific activity was evaluated with an observational guide. The results were low educational qualification of professors, little mastery of the teaching methods of problems; educational activities rated as Regular prevailed. There were deficiencies in teaching competence which affected the professional performance in the teaching activity.
