RESUMEN

Se realiza un estudio estadístico de 1 026 pacientes operados en el Servicio de Cirugía Maxilofacial del Hospital Provincial "Manuel Ascunce Domenech" en el año 2001, donde se constató infección quirúrgica en 35 de ellos 3,41 por ciento; el mayor número de pacientes correspondió a 26 intervenidos de forma ambulatoria (3,39 por ciento). La entidad nosológica más infectiva fue la cirugía ortognática (22,22 por ciento). No se evidenció relación alguna entre los pacientes infectados y las enfermedades predisponentes(AU)

ABSTRACT

A statistical study was conducted among 1 026 patients that were operated on at the Maxillofacial Surgery Service of "Manuel Ascunce Domenech" Provincial Hospital in 2001. Surgical infection was confirmed in 35 of them (3.41 percent). The highest number of patients corresponded to those who had undergone ambulatory surgery (3.39 percent). The most infective nosological entity was orthognathic surgery (22.22 percent). No relation was found between the infected patients and the predisposing diseases(AU)
