RESUMO
O objetivo principal deste estudo prospectivo foi avaliar o valor prognóstico de variáveis demográficas, clínicas e laboratoriais sobre a mortalidade em pacientes com cardiopatia chagásica crônica (CCC). Entre 1986 e 1991, 424 pacientes consecutivos (247 homens, com média de idade de 47 ± 11 anos) atendidos no Hospital São Salvador, de Goiânia, foram submetidos a eletrocardiografia (ECG), radiografia de tórax, ecocardiografia, Holter de 24 horas, estudo da variabilidade da freqüência cardíaca e teste ergométrico, e seguidos até o óbito ou até a data da última avaliação (1997-1998). Após acompanhamento de 7,9 ± 3,2 anos, foram observados 130 (30,7 por cento) óbitos, a maioria (81 ou 62,3 por cento) subitamente.The aim of this prospective study was to assess the prognostic value of demographic, clinical and laboratorial variables on mortality in patients with Chagas´ heart disease. Between 1986 and 1991, 424 consecutive patients (247 male, mean age 47± 11 years) seen at Hospital São Salvador, in Goiânia, underwent clinical evaluation and laboratorial tests (including 12 lead ECG, chest radiography, echocardiography, 24-hour Holter monitoring, heart rate variability study and exercise testing), and were followed until death or the date of the last evaluation, which took place between 1997 and 1998.
