A neovascularização ocular é uma complicação séria das uveítes. Parece que o nervo óptico e a retina são afetados numa maior frequência, embora neovasos podem crescer na íris, no corpo ciliar, e na coróide. Inúmeros fatores de crescimento neovascular e fatores inibitórios foram identificados in vitro. A neovascularização é um elemento do processo de cicatrização pós inflamatória em todas as partes do corpo, e continua durante o tempo que o estímulo angiogênico estiver presente. A neovascularização secundária a uveíte parece ser determinada pela gravidade da inflamação e pela presença de não perfusão retiniana / Ocular neovascularization is a serious complication of uveitis. The condition appears to affect the retina and optic disc most often, although new vessels may arise from the iris, ciliary body, and choroid as well. Numerous neovascular growth and inhibitory factors have been identified in vitro. Neovascularization is a fundamental element of the postinflammatory healing process in all parts of the body, and continues for as long as the appropriate angiogenic stimulus is present.
