Os autores fazem uma revisão bibliográfica tentando relacionar o avanço da expectativa de vida com o aumento na prevalência de lesões do manguito rotador, a segunda causa mais freqüente de consultas ortopédicas atualmente. este artigo visa esclarecer as teorias aceitas e mais atuais e a provável etiologia.
