Categorização semântica e aquisição lexical: desempenho de crianças com alteração do desenvolvimento da linguagem / Semantic categorization and lexical acquisition: performance of young children with language development disorders

RESUMO

Objetivo: verificar a relação entre o total de acertos em tarefas de vocabulário expressivo e receptivoe as habilidades de categorização semântica de crianças com Alteração do Desenvolvimento da Linguagem (ADL). Métodos: 22 crianças, de ambos os gêneros, com idades entre 3;1 e 5;10anos realizaram as seguintes provas Prova de Categorização de Objetos, Prova de Verificação do Vocabulário Expressivo e Prova de Verificação do Vocabulário Receptivo. Os dados obtidos receberam tratamento estatístico para comparação dos desempenhos nas três tarefas, comparação dos desempenhos entre as três faixas etárias incluídas e verificação da correlação entre as provas. Resultados: os sujeitos apresentaram melhor desempenho na Prova de Verificação do VocabulárioReceptivo do que nas demais provas. A heterogeneidade característica das crianças com ADL também foi observada na comparação das três provas. Houve evolução significante com a idade na Prova de Verificação do Vocabulário Expressivo e na categoria Co-hipônimo distante da Prova de Categorização de Objetos. Apenas as provas de vocabulário expressivo e receptivo apresentaram correlação entre si. Conclusão: o déficit lexical apresentado pelos sujeitos pode estar relacionado às falhas nas representações semânticas e na organização cognitiva dessas representações. A combinação dos desempenhos nas tarefas propostas pode trazer informações importantespara a identificação da origem das falhas lexicais.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: to verify the relationship between the number of correct answers in expressive and receptive vocabulary tasks and the semantic categorization abilities of children with Language Development Disorders (LDD). Methods: 22 children, of both genders, with ages between 3;1 and 5;10 years carriedout three tasks Objects Categorization Test, Expressive Vocabulary Test and Receptive Vocabulary Test. Data received statistical treatment in order to compare the general performance in the tests considered and the performances of each age group, and to verify the correlation among the tests. Results: the subjects showed better performance in the Receptive Vocabulary Test, as compared to the other two tests. The characteristic heterogeneity observed in children with LDD was also observedin this comparison. There was significant evolution with the age in the Expressive Vocabulary Test and in the Distant Cohyponym category of the Objects Categorization Test. Only the Expressive Vocabulary Test and the Receptive Vocabulary Test showed significant correlation. Conclusions: the lexical deficits showed by the subjects can be related to deficits in the semantic representation and their cognitiveorganization. The combination of the performances on the proposed tasks can provide important information for identifying the origin of lexical deficits.
