ABSTRACT
The importance of vitamin A in the organism has been recognized from inmemorial time. Althoug this vitamin is widely found in nature, both in the animal and vegetal kingdoms, nutritional deficiencies still occur even today in the 12st Century. These deficiencies may by clinical or subclinical, and the most vulnerable groups are children under 5 years of age, and pregnant and lactating women. Nutritional education and a vitamin A-rich diet is a real long-term worldwide solution to this health of third world countries.
