ABSTRACT
In this study we verified the performance of Western blotting and QuantiFERON® - TB Gold for diagnosis pulmonary tuberculosis and circulating adhesion molecules as prognosis markers. Western blotting results showed a high performance with sensitivity of 94 per cent and specificity of 96 per cent, attending WHO requirements for serological tests. After adjusting the threshold, QuantiFERON® - TB Gold showed sensitivity of 83 per cent and specificity of 100 per cent. The levels of ICAM-1 and selectins after treatment were significantly lower in pulmonary tuberculosis patients when compared to the levels before treatment suggest a better prognosis for patients.
