RESUMO

Analisa as diversas utopias sociais e cientificistas que circularam no Brasil durante a segunda metade do século XIX. Introduzidas no país na década de 1840, elas ganharam força com a posterior difusão do positivismo, sobretudo na década de 1890, quando se configurou uma euforia modernizante no país, típica da belle époque.

ABSTRACT

This article seeks to analyze the different social and scientific utopias that circulated around Brazil in the second half of the 19th century. Introduced to the country in the 1840s, they gained ground when positivism took root, especially in the 1890s, when a wave of modernization ensued in the country, typical of the belle époque.
