Mastectomia e suas conseqüências na vida da mulher / Mastectomy and its consequences in the woman’s life

RESUMO

O estudo identificou os principais problemas da mulher mastectomizada. Foi feito uma entrevista gravada com 10 mulheres mastectomizadas, com idades de 34 a 66 anos, que participaram do grupo Mulher. Na análise de conteúdo foram identificadas algumas categorias, por exemplo, vivenciando problemas da mastectomia e a sexualidade. As categorias demonstraram que, após a mastectomia, a mulher demonstrou algumas limitações e dificuldades com situações que envolvem a exposição do corpo e ajuste social para realização de suas atividades. Os resultados mostraram vários tipos de situações que variam dependendo do contexto em quea mulher está vivendo. Por isso, é muito importante o papel da enfermagem na tentativa de resgatar oconceito que a mulher mastectomizada tem de si mesma. O estudo contribuiu para sensibilização de profissionais da saúde, permitindo avaliar e assistir a mulher integralmente.

ABSTRACT

The aim of the study was to identify the primary problems of women who had undergone a mastectomy. Arecorded interview with 10 women who underwent the procedure was carried out. The women’s age, whoparticipated the Grupo Mulher (Women’s Group), ranged from 34 to 66 years. Some of the categories thathave been identified in the analysis of content, such as the experiencing effects on mastectomy and sexuality,were exemplified. The categories demonstrated that, after the mastectomy, the woman presented somelimitations and dilemmas to deal with situations involving the exposure of her body and the social readjustmentin order to perform her daily activities. The outcomes showed particular types of circumstances that changedepending on the situation the woman is living on. That is why it is very important the nursing role inattempting to rescue the concept that the mastectomy woman has about herself. The present study hascontributed to sensitize the health professionals to the significance of this problem and the impact on healthcare allowing them to evaluate and to better support the woman.
