RESUMO

Este texto tem o objetivo de contribuir com reflexões sobre maus tratos na infância. As autoras abordam aspectos históricos e conceituais do fenômeno. Ao final, relembram que os profissionais da saúde são obrigados a notificar os maus tratos cometidos contra crianças e adolescentes, e que a sencibilização destes para o problema pode ser o primeiro passo para que este preceito legal seja cumprido.

ABSTRACT

This paper has the objective of contributing to the discussion on child abuse. The authors include historical and conceptual aspects of this phenomena. They conclude reminding health care workers that notification of abuse against children and adolescents is mandatory and making these workers aware of the problem may be the first step to ensure the enforcement of this law.

Este texto tiene por objeto aportar reflexiones sobre el maltrato infantil. Las autoras enfocan aspectos históricos y conceptuales acerca del tema. Recuerdan que los profesionales de salud están obligados a notificar el maltrato a niños y adolescentes y que la concienciación del problema podría ser el primer paso para que se cumplan las disposiciones legales.
