ABSTRACT
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is an important clinical condition, of growing frequency. Directly related with tobacco smoking, it is quite preventable and treatable, is, unfortunately undertreated. Clinical suspicion and timely performed espirometry are clue for the diagnosis. Therapy is groinded on smoking cessation, immunization against respiratory pathogens, drugs (bronchodilators, antiinflamatories and antibiotics), oxigen and physical therapy.
RESUMEN
La enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica (EPOC) es una condición importante, de frecuencia creciente, prevenible y tratable, relacionada directamente con el hábito tabáquico y que lamentablemente es subdiagnosticada y subtratada. La sospecha clínica y la realización de espirometría son fundamentales en el diagnóstico. Las bases del tratamiento son el cese del tabaquismo, las inmunizaciones contra patógenos respiratorios, fármacos (broncodilatadores, antiinflamatorios y antibióticos), oxigenoterapia y kinesioterapia.
