Enfermedad de Alzheimer: consideraciones odontológicas / Alzheimer´s disease: dental considerations

RESUMEN

La enfermedad de Alzheimer (EA) es una afección que se presenta en pacientes adultos/mayores y es la causa más frecuente de demencia en este grupo poblacional. Los factores etiológicos son múltiples y la evolución es lenta pero progresiva. Por tratarse de un segmento de la población en constante aumento; la siguiente revisión bibliográfica busca familiarizar al Odontólogo con las características clínicas de la enfermedad y la manera de planificar el tratamiento odontológico en este tipo de pacientes.

ABSTRACT

The Alzheimer's Disease is an affection that is presented in older patients and it is the most frequent cause of dementia in this segment of population. The etiologic factors are multiple and the evolution is slow but progressive. Because this population's segment is in constant increase, the next literature review wants to familiarize the Dentistry with the clinical features of the illness and the way of focusing the treatment plan in this kind of patients.
