RESUMO

OBJETIVO:

avaliar a qualidade de vida de mulheres no climatério, atendidas em um hospital-escola na cidade do Recife, Pernambuco, empregando o Medical Outcome Study 36-item Short Form Health Survey (MOS SF-36 Health Survey), o Women's Health Questionnaire (WHQ) e o índice de Blatt-Kupperman modificado.

MÉTODOS:

em estudo descritivo, transversal, foram avaliadas 233 mulheres atendidas entre fevereiro e junho de 2006. Em amostragem de conveniência, foram incluídas mulheres com idade entre 40 e 65 anos e concordância em participar da pesquisa, excluindo-se a com história prévia de ooforectomia bilateral, terapia hormonal no semestre antecedente à pesquisa e doenças descompensadas. Calculou-se o tamanho amostral, admitindo prevalência de sintomas climatéricos em 4 por cento e precisão igual a 2,5 por cento. Foram analisadas saúde geral, componente físico e componente mental, obtidos com o MOS SF-36 Health Survey; qualidade de saúde pelo WHQ; e sintomatologia climatérica pelo índice de Blatt-Kupperman modificado. Os dados foram analisados com o programa Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), versão 13.0.

RESULTADOS:

a qualidade de vida foi classificada como ruim. Pelo MOS SF-36 Health Survey, identificou-se maior prejuízo no componente mental (18,5 versus 27,7 por cento do físico), maiores perdas nas funções sociais (80,2 por cento) e limitações por problemas emocionais (78,61 por cento). Pelo WHQ, houve maior acometimento de distúrbios do sono (69,7 por cento), sintomas somáticos (69,1 por cento) e vasomotores (68,8 por cento), sendo considerados regulares a função sexual e os sintomas menstruais. Os sintomas de deficiência estrogênica foram acentuados para 53 por cento das mulheres. O aumento dos sintomas de hipoestrogenismo se acompanhou de piora da saúde geral e da saúde menopausal.

CONCLUSÕES:

pareceu plausível supor que a menopausa se configurou realmente como um evento biopsicossocial, mais do que orgânico, derivado predominantemente...
ABSTRACT

PURPOSE:

to evaluate quality of life of climacteric women attended at a school hospital in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil, adopting the Medical Outcome Study 36-item Short Form Health Survey (MOS SF-36 Health Survey) and the Women's Health Questionnaire (WHQ), as well as the modified Blatt-Kupperman index.

METHODS:

according to a descriptive, transversal study, 233 women, assisted from February to June 2006, were evaluated. Within a convenience sample, the inclusion criteria were age from 40 to 65 years old and agreement in participating of the research, excluding previous history of bilateral oophorectomy, hormonal therapy in the last semester and uncontrolled illnesses. The sample size was calculated admitting a prevalence of climacteric symptoms of 4 percent and a precision of 2.5 percent. The variables were general health and physical and mental components based on the MOS SF-36 Health Survey; quality of health based on the WHQ and climacteric symptoms according to the modified Blatt-Kupperman index. Data were analyzed by the Statistical Package for Social Sciences, version 13.0 software.

RESULTS:

the quality of life was classified as bad. Based on the MOS SF-36 Health Survey, there was more damage in the mental component (18.53 versus 27.77 percent for physical components), higher losses in social functions (80.28 percent) and limitations for emotional problems (78.61 percent). According to WHQ, there were limitations due to sleep disturbances (69.77 percent), somatic (69.15 percent) and vasomotor symptoms (68.80 percent), considering regular sexual function and menstrual symptoms. Estrogenic deficiency symptoms were found in 53 percent of the women. The increase of hypoestrogenism symptoms were followed by worsening of general and menopausal health.

CONCLUSIONS:

it seemed reasonable to assume that menopause, for the researched women, was really configured as a biopsychosocial event, more than organic, derived predominantly from estrogenic...
