RESUMEN
Pero, ¿cuál fue la relación entre estos tres hombres? Charcot, en 1874, describe la esclerosis lateral amiotrófica como entidad clínica basándose en las observaciones realizadas a 20 pacientes y 5 autopsias. Desde entonces, algunos la llaman enfermedad de Charcot. David Niven falleció de una esclerosis lateral amiotrófica, al igual que Lou Gehrig. Actualmente en los EE. UU. muchos para referirse a la enfermedad lo hacen con el nombre de Lou Gehrig Disease (enfermedad de Lou Gehrig).
