ABSTRACT
The basis of radiographic interpretation is knowledge of the bone anatomy of the maxilla and mandible. It is necessary to point out normality and its variations in order to recognize any pathology. The radiograph is a two dimensional projection, originated from the superimposition of tridimensional structures with alteration of their shapes and dimensions. Differential diagnosis between radiographic images of normal bone anatomy and pathological bone processes is made based on previous knowledge of radiographic data which are subject of the present text. The anatomic structures of the maxilla and mandible pointed out are those capable of being confused in differential diagnosis.
