RESUMEN
La mortalidad neonatal es el componente más difícil de modificar de la mortalidad infantil. Los resultados dependen del trabajo de obstetras, neonatólogos, genetistas y médicos generales integrales. Se realiza un estudio observacional descriptivo retrospectivo que incluye 38 recién nacidos fallecidos en el Hospital Provincial Docente Dr. Antonio Luaces Iraola, de Ciego de Ávila, en el periodo comprendido desde enero de 2000 hasta diciembre de 2005, con el objetivo de valorar el comportamiento de la mortalidad neonatal en dicho periodo. Las variables analizadas fueron: peso, edad gestacional, Apgar al 5to minuto, además tasa de mortalidad y causas de muerte.
ABSTRACT
Neonatal mortality is the most difficult component to be modified of pediatric mortality. Results depend on the work of obtetricians, neonatologists, geneticists and physicians. An observational, descriptive retrospective study, involving 38 newborns diceased at the Dr. Antonio Luaces Iraola Provincial Teaching Hospital in the time period from January 2000 to December 2005 was conducted. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the behavior of neonatal mortality in that time period. Variables were matched for weigbt, gestational age, apgar at 5th minute as well mortality rate and causes of death.
