Constipación en el niño: algunas consideraciones sobre el diagnóstico y tratamiento / Constipation in childhood: some considerations on diagnosis and treatment

RESUMEN

Se realiza una revisión del tema “constipación” en niños, se incluyen las causas más frecuentes, algunos aspectos fisiopatológicos, diagnóstico y tratamiento con el propósito de consolidar los conocimientos sobre la enfermedad y lograr pautas de tratamiento uniforme. Se concluye que la constipación es una enfermedad frecuente en la infancia con elevada prevalencia en pre-escolares aunque puede verse a cualquier edad. La edad de inicio de la constipación y el tacto rectal resultan de gran utilidad para el manejo diagnóstico del caso y el tratamiento debe encaminarse hacia tres aspectos fundamentales: Eliminar la impactación rectal, evitar que reaparezca y estimular hábitos defecatorios normales.

ABSTRACT

A review of the subject on constipation in children is made, including the most frequent causes, some pathophysiological aspects, diagnosis and treatment in order to consolidate the knowledge on the disease and to obtain the guidelines of uniform treatment are included. We conclude that constipation is a frequent disease in childhood with high prevalence in pre-school children, although it can be seen at any age. The age of onset of constipation and the rectal tact are very useful for the management of diagnosis of the case and the treatment must be directed towards three fundamental aspects: to eliminate the rectal impactation, to keep it from being recurrent and to stimulate normal defecation habits.
