Uso del inhalador de dosis medida de salbutamol en pacientes asmáticos / The use of the metered dose inhaler of Salbutamol for asthmatic patients

RESUMEN

Se realizó un estudio observacional descriptivo de corte transversal en 200 pacientes asmáticos, consumidores del inhalador de dosis medida de salbutamol pertenecientes al Policlínico Norte del municipio de Ciego de Ávila, con el objetivo de conocer la forma habitual de utilización del medicamento. Se realizó encuesta mediante entrevista individual a cada paciente en los meses de septiembre del 2000 a septiembre del 2001. Los principales resultados encontrados fueron que se instruyó al 49 porciento porciento en el uso del inhalador en el consultorio médico. El 57 porciento de los casos utilizaban 2 o más inhaladores mensuales. El 58 porciento de los pacientes se aplicaban el medicamento más de 5 veces al día. Más de la mitad de los pacientes no se aplicaban técnicamente bien el inhalador. Los errores más frecuentes identificados fueron no hacer coincidir la presión sobre el cartucho con la inspiración, accionar más de una vez el inhalador en una misma inspiración. ABSTRACT

An observational descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in 200 asthmatic patients, using metered dose inhalers of Salbutamol, belonging to the Northern Polyclinic of the municipality of Ciego de Avila; the purpose of this study was to get to know the habitual way this device is used. We devised a questionnaire whereby each patient was individually interviewed in the time period from September 2000 to September 2001. Major results were as follows Forty-nine % of pts were instructed in the use of the inhaler at the family doctor’s home-office. Fifty-seven % of cases utilized two or more inhalers per month. Fifty-eight % of the patients administered the medication more than five times a day. More than half of patients did not technically well use the inhaler. The most frequent mistakes were pressure on the canister did not coincide with inhalation; Patients puffed the inhaler several times in the same inhalation. As high as 86% of pts were interested in learning the right technique.
