RESUMEN

Con frecuencia nos enfrentamos al análisis de variables que son de carácter cuantitativo discreto y/o con jerarquía. Estos no son susceptibles de un análisis de regresión lineal y tampoco se puede utilizar regresión logística. Existe la posibilidad de hacer correlación por rangos de Spearman, método muy utilizado en estudios del ámbito psicosocial. En este artículo se explica en qué consiste este método y cuáles son sus fundamentos matemáticos. Se enseña cómo aplicarlo utilizando un ejemplo fácil de reproducir en cualquier planilla de cálculo. Finalmente se mencionan sus limitaciones y ventajas.

ABSTRACT

We often face the analysis of variables that are of quantitative discrete character and/or with hierarchy. These are not susceptible of linear regression analysis nor can logistic regression be used. There is the possibility of making Spearman´s rank correlation, a method widely used in psychosocial field studies. This article explains what is this method about and which are its mathematical foundations. It is taught how to apply it using an example easy to be reproduced in any spreadsheet. Finally, its limitations and advantages are mentioned.
