RESUMO
O município de Maringá (PR), empenhado na consolidação da promoção da saúde, realiza váriasa ções, entre as quais a Academia da Terceira Idade (ATI), composta de dez equipamentos metálicos para a prática de exercícios físicos instalados ao ar livre, localizados perto de Unidades Básicas de Saúde. A ATI tem como objetivo incentivar a prática de atividade física entre os idosos, considerando-se que a inatividade física é um dos principais fatores de risco para as doenças crônicas não transmissíveis. É fruto de uma parceria entre a Prefeitura e empresas privadas. O artigo revela o que os freqüentadores acham dos vários benefícios à saúde obtidos a partir da prática de atividade física na ATI.
ABSTRACT
The town of Maringá, in Paraná state, in an attempt to consolidate health promotion, has carriedout several schemes including the Fitness Academy for the Third Age (ATI), composed of 10 piecesof metal gym equipment installed outdoors for practicing physical exercises, located near the BasicHealth Care Centers. The objective of the fitness academy is to stimulate the elderly to practice physical activity, considering that physical inactivity is one of the major risk factors for chronic, nontransmittable diseases. It is the result of a partnership between the City Hall and private businesses.The article reveals what users of the gym think about the various health benefits obtained from thephysical activity practiced there.
