RESUMO
A utilização da massagem como recurso terapêutico e descrita desde os primórdios da nossa civilização. Ela produz efeitos sobre os sistemas nervoso, mioarticular e cardiopulmonar. O fisioterapeuta detém, entre outros, os conhecimentos referentes a fundamentação e as técnicas de massagem. Classicamente a massagem vem sendo prescrita aos adultos como recurso terapêutico. Recentemente, sua utilização e efeitos benéficos em crianças e bebes vem sendo pesquisados. Com interesse nos conhecimentos referentes à utilização da massagem no tratamento de bebes e crianças, foi realizado um levantamento bibliográfico dos últimos trinta anos, em quatro bases de dados, a partir do qual se analisou criticamente cada texto encontrado, inclusive capítulos de livros, considerando-se a fundamentação, descrição das técnicas e efeitos fisiológicos da massagem para bebes e crianças descritos.
ABSTRACT
The utilization of massage as a therapeutic resource is described since the beginning of our civilization. It produces effects over the nervous, muscle-skeleton and cardiac-respiratory systems. The physical therapist uses knowledge concerning bases and technics of massage and others. Classically massage has been prescribed for adults as a therapeutic resource and recently is being explored for its utilization and beneficial effects in children and infants. With interest to the knowledge concerning the utilization of massage for treatment of infants and children, it has been done a literature review of the last thirty years, in four databases, where each text was critically analyzed, inclusively chapters of books, considering the bases, technical descriptions and physiological effects of massage for infants and children.
