Fatores que interferem na reabilitação protética de idosos amputados de membros inferiores / Aspects that influence the prosthetic rehabilitation of elderly lower limb amputee

RESUMO

Amputações de membros inferiores (AMI) têm relevante impacto na capacidade funcional e na qualidade de vida dos idosos. O uso da prótese por pacientes geriátricos pode promover maior independência e aumento da expectativa de vida. Entretanto, a reabilitação protética de idosos com AMI é tarefa complexa, em que vários fatores devem ser considerados. O objetivo deste estudo foi realizar uma revisão da literatura sobre os fatores que interferem na reabilitação protética de idosos com AMI. Os fatores reportados na literatura, com impacto na reabilitação de idosos com AMI, foram idade, nível e tipo de amputação, comorbidades, cicatrização, reamputações, condições físicas, psicológicas e cognitivas. Orientações pré e pós-operatórias, cuidados com o coto e a escolha da prótese também interferem no sucesso da reabilitação. De acordo com a literatura, inúmeros fatores podem interferir na protetização do idoso com AMI. Contudo, o sucesso na reabilitação pode ser alcançado desde que as propostas terapêuticas considerem as características peculiares dessa população.

ABSTRACT

Lower limb amputation (LLA) represents a significant impact to the elderly functional capacity, with consequences in their quality of life. The use of prosthesis for geriatric patients provides them with a greater independence and improved life expectancy. However, the prosthetic rehabilitation of elderly with LLA is a complex task, with several aspects that should be considered. The aim of this study was to make a literature review about the aspects that influence the prosthetic rehabilitation of the elderly with LLA. The aspects reported in the literature which have impact on the elderly with LLA rehabilitation were age, level and type of amputation, co-morbidities, scarring, reamputation, physical, psychological and cognitive conditions. Pre and post surgery recommendations, caring of the stump and the selection of the prosthesis also influence the rehabilitation success. In accordance with the literature, innumerable aspects can influence the prosthetization of elderly with LLA. However, success in rehabilitation can be achieved provided the therapeutic approaches take into account the particularities of this population.
