Pré-natal odontológico e saúde bucal: percepções e representações de gestantes / Prenatal dental care and oral health: pregnant women's perceptions and representations

RESUMO

A gravidez é um período fisiológico complexo. Nele, além das mudanças físicas e emocionais, são sugeridos crenças e mitos envolvendo a saúde do binômio mãe-filho. Neste contexto, a atenção odontológica muitas vezes é tida como prejudicial e contraindicada.Por outro lado, nessa fase a mulher normalmente está mais receptiva a novos conhecimentos, que podem levar à adoção de novas e melhores práticas de saúde, cujos benefícios se estenderão aos demais membros da família, em decorrência doimportante papel da mãe no cuidado da família. A presente pesquisa teve comoproposta identificar a percepção de gestantes usuárias do SUS e gestantes assistidas no serviço privado sobre saúde bucal no período gestacional, por meio de uma abordagem qualitativa, com análise de conteúdo e, nela, análise temática. Foram realizadas entrevistas semi-estruturadas até obter-se saturação em relação àcompreensão dos objetivos dessa pesquisa. Para isso, foram necessárias 9 entrevistas entre as usuárias do SUS e 8 entre as gestantes do serviço privado. Como o número deentrevistas entre os dois grupos ficou muito próximo, optou-se por entrevistar 10 gestantes em cada grupo, totalizando, portanto, 20 entrevistas. Neste estudo, foram identificadas seis categorias de análise auto-cuidado durante o período gestacional,atenção odontológica durante a gestação, visão dos sujeitos de pesquisa sobre gravidez e suas conseqüências na saúde bucal, como as gestantes resolvem seus problemas de saúde bucal, a mãe na promoção de saúde bucal, os profissionais de saúde. Nelas, foram identificadas vinte e seis representações. A análise e interpretação dos dados mostraram a existência de mitos, medos e restrições relacionados à atenção odontológica no pré-natal, que a busca pela atenção odontológica entre as usuárias doSUS parece ser mais rotineira e sistemática, quando comparadas às gestantes assistidas por convênio, possivelmente relacionada à oportunidade de resolver problemas odontológicos...

ABSTRACT

Pregnancy is a complex physiological period in which emotional and physical changes are coupled with beliefs and myths involving the health of the binomial mother-child . In this context, dental care is often not recommended and considered harmful. However,during this period, women are normally more receptive to new knowledge, which can lead to the adoption of new and better health practices , bringing benefits to the other family members as well. The objective of this research is to identify pregnant women’s , users of the SUS ( Unified Health System) and those assisted by the private sector,perceptions of oral health during their pregnancy , using a qualitative approach and content and theme analysis. Subjects (9 SUS users and 8 users of the private health care system) total comprehension of the objectives of this study was checked through semi-structured interviews. As the number of interviewees in the two groups was tooclose, the researcher decided to interview 10 pregnant women from each group. During the interviews, the following analysis categories were identified self care duringpregnancy, dental care during pregnancy, subjects perceptions of pregnancy and its influence on oral health, dealing with oral problems during pregnancy, the role of themother on promoting oral health, and health professionals. The study identified 26 representations in these categories. Analysis and interpretation of the data identified the presence of myths , fears and restrictions related to prenatal dental care .
