Intento suicida en el niño y en el aadolescente / Suicide attempt in children and adolescents

RESUMEN

Según datos de la OMS se estima que alrededor de 1 000 personas se suicidan cada día. En Cuba, el suicidio en el adolescente ocupa el tercer lugar entre las causas de muerte (5,2 x 100 000 hab.), por lo que esto representa un grave problema de salud. Se realiza este estudio con el objetivo de conocer el comportamiento general de la conducta suicida en adolescentes, en el Hospital Pediátrico Docente Centro Habana durante el año 2003 y evaluar otros factores desencadenantes de estas conductas. Es un estudio retrospectivo, descriptivo, que toma como universo el total de pacientes que ingresaron o se atendieron ambulatoriamente por intoxicaciones, que fueron 120. La muestra quedó conformada con los 85 pacientes que realizaron intentos suicidas. La disfunción familiar se demostró en el 96 por ciento de los casos, con predominio del sexo femenino; el 72 por ciento de los casos presentaron síntomas depresivos y el método más utilizado fue la ingestión de tabletas.

ABSTRACT

According to statistical data brought out by WHO, it is estimated that about 1 000 people commit suicide every day. In Cuba, adolescent suicide occupies the third place among the death causes (5,2 x 100 000 inhabitants) being then a serious health problem. This research aims at making out the general behavior of the suicidal conduct in adolescents and was carried out at Centre Havana Pediatric Hospital in the year 2003 to evaluate other factors that unleash this conduct. This is a retrospective descriptive study whose research universe is the total number of patients admitted in hospital or had ambulatory assistance due to intoxication. Out of the 120 patients in total, the final sample was comprised of 85 patients who made suicidal attempts. Family disfunction was proved in 96 percent of the cases prevailing the female sex. The 72 percent of these patients presented symptoms of depression; the ingestion of tablets was the method most used.
