A medida como prova de um mundo pleno: o papel da psicofísica na obra de Gustav Fechner / Measurement as proof of a full world: the role of psychophysics in Gustav Fechner’s work

RESUMO

O objetivo deste trabalho é restabelecer o lugar da Psicofísica nos trabalhos de Fechner, rompendo com a concepção vigente, que a considera uma mera ferramenta instrumental a serviço do rigor científico da Psicologia. Com isto, busca-se situá-la enquanto função empírica do pensamento metafísico e religioso, a chamada ‘Visão Diurna’. Para tal, este pensamento é esmiuçado em seus componentes, como a hipótese ‘panpsiquista’, a tese anímica da natureza, a hierarquia das almas e a concepção panteísta de Deus. De igual modo, esse quadro do pensamento de Fechner habilita ao estabelecimento de ressonâncias com a obra de outros pensadores, com especial destaque para a filosofia de Baruch de Spinoza.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the analysis we propose in the article is to restore the original role of psychophysics in Fechner’s work, thereby refusing the prevailing opinion according to which it is a mere tool serving psychology’s scientific rigor. We suggest that psychophysics has an empirical function in Fechner’s metaphysical and religious thought, the so-called “Daylight Vision”. Such philosophy is analyzed in its components, as the hypothesis of panpsychism, the conception of an animist nature, the hierarchy of the souls and the pantheist conception of God. These features of Fechner’s thought enables us to formulate connections with other philosophies, especially that of Baruch Spinoza.
