Crianças com câncer: desvelando o significado do adoecimento atribuído por suas mães / Childern with cancer: unveiling the meaning of to become sick attributed for theirs mothers

RESUMEN

Este estudo de abordagem fenomenológica teve como objetivo desvelar o significado do adoecimento de crianças por câncer atribuído por suas mães. A entrevista fenomenológica foi norteada pelo questionamento Qual o significado do adoecimento do seu filho para a senhora? A pesquisa foi realizada em Aracaju-SE, com 10 mulheres, cujos filhos eram crianças assistidas pelo Grupo de Apoio à Criança com Câncer, em 2006. O significado do câncer foi des-velado como sendo algo perigoso, incurável devido à possibilidade de morte; impactante, emergindo sentimentos de negação e resignação; que a aproxima de Deus ou fortalece o vínculo com o Divino; que altera o cotidiano e demanda preocupar-se com o outro e ocupar-se de si. Assim, cabe aos profissionais da saúde compreender esses significados e perceber que o cuidado dispensado não deve ser exclusivo à criança, mas extensivo à mãe, àquela que vivencia tão intensamente cada momento.

ABSTRACT

The phenomenological approach of this study aimed at unveiling the meaning mothers donate to their children’s falling ill of cancer. The phenomenological interview has been guided by following question what is the meaning of your child’s cancer to you? This piece of research was done in Aracaju, SE, Brazil with 10 women, whose children were supported by the Grupo de Apoio à criança com Câncer (GACC)/ Support Team to Children with Cancer, in 2006. The meaning of the child’s cancer to the mother was characterized as dangerous, incurable, on account of the possibility of death; it gave rise to striking feelings of both denial and acceptance; it either made her feel closer to God or strengthened her bond with the divine; it changed her everyday life and required dedication to the other and self care taking. Therefore, it is the responsibility of health care professionals to understand these meanings and to realize, in this context, the care offered must not be restricted to the child, but must be extensive to the mother, to the one who goes through each moment so intensely.
